Below is a break out of two graphs from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s “2008 Wind Technologies Market Report” by Ryan Wiser and Mark Bollinger (July 2009; pp. 30-31.)
On the topic of how wholesale wind power prices compare to wholesale power prices nationwide, the report says: “At least on a cumulative basis within the sample of projects reported here, average wind power prices have consistently been at or below the low end of the wholesale power price range.”
The figure below shows that Texas appears to have had the lowest cost wind power in the United States (red horizontal bars)and that Texas wind power is cost competitive with the average price of wholesale power in Texas.
